Helping my grandma clean her house last weekend, organizing old boxes of photos being the big project, my mom came across this photo of my grandpa Ray in his navy uniform – probably taken around 1943. Isn’t he handsome? “Just like a movie star,” according to mom. She sent me this copy, and is looking into good places to get matte reprints of the old photos so that we can distribute this and other keepers to several members of the family. Love to hear suggestions of where to get good old fashioned non-gloss prints (and where ideally they will do all the scanning and etc. for us, too, at a good price). Old photo paper has such a wonderful quality and look to it. And it’s thicker and almost soft. I miss it!
On the note of tactile things which are inspiring to me in terms of design, this was definitely my pick-me-up this week, a bright spot amongst an unusually heavy workload of digital image sorting, editing, and cropping which will continue throughout today. Thanks, gramps.
