SOFA Sculpture Objects and Functional Art fair is the preeminent expo of contemporary ceramic, fiber, metal, and wood artwork worldwide. Showing in New York City and Chicago since the early 1990’s, the fair added Santa Fe as its western outpost in 2009 and returned this year for a second go. 2009 attendance blew the expected 2,000 out of the water with over 10,000 visitors to the fair. This year’s expo represents over 540 top artists, 85 of whom will be on-site from across the US, Japan, Australia, Italy, England, Belgium, and Germany to speak about their work. There is also a native pottery symposium with scholars Garth Clark and Bruce Bernstein and a host of lectures and special events with artists throughout the week. I have been working as the regional PR person for the show, and wanted to share a few pictures of progress to date. SOFA WEST is at the Santa Fe Convention Center July 8-11 noon-6pm daily.
