Christmas is (Almost) Here: Santa Fe

I still can’t believe it’s December; it seems like this year has flown by so fast.  Things finally started to feel a little more like the holidays were right around the corner this weekend, though.  We decorated our tree, watched the snow fall, went to The Nutcracker at the Lensic, and dressed the dogs in embarrassing Santa outfits.  (Yes, we did.)

I’ve gathered a few ‘festive’ images to share my recent gearing up for holiday spirits.  The first snowfall is the best part of December (and good thing, because it has been snowing steadily here in Santa Fe all weekend and the skies are still white), with unpacking ornaments for the tree a close second.  Honestly, I like rediscovering all the baubles and lights one by one better than unwrapping new gifts.  Jackalope is my favorite place in town to get decorations for the tree: leaded glass balls, wooden hand-painted figures, pressed tin animals from Mexico.  And, I love the winter way the house smells this time of year: like pine, sap, and smoke, with the tree inside and a fire in the fireplace.

What holiday preparations are making you feel like 2012 is almost here?
